¿Cómo y cuándo usar el verbo modal “might”?
- Para expresar posibilidad
Solemos utilizar might para sugerir una situación o explicación posible, aunque no afirmamos que sea cierta al 100 %, o bien cuando no estamos seguros de lo que va a ocurrir:
-Come to the training - you might have fun (Ven al entrenamiento. ¡Puede que te diviertas!)
En este ejemplo queremos animar a alguien a ir a entrenar, sin llegar a prometerle que vaya a ser divertido.
Asimismo, empleamos might cuando no estamos seguros de lo que está pasando en este momento:
-Joanna’s still not here - she might be stuck in traffic (Joanna no ha llegado aún. Puede que esté en un atasco).
Ejercicio
Cuatro de estas ocho frases contienen errores. Encuéntralos y corrígelos:
- I might don’t go to the party.
- I don’t know what happened to my glasses - I might left them on the train.
- There’s a puente next week so a lot of students might miss class.
- The mechanics on the corner are very good - they might can fix your car.
- You might have told us you weren’t coming!
- It might raining tomorrow.
